Kyla Zoe Rafert @ Phoenix Rising

FLC member Kyla Zoe Rafert presents an exhibition of original works in the hallway gallery of Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative at 243 N. 5th St. #140 in Columbus, Ohio, from April 3rd through April 30th 2018. The exhibition will be available for viewing during the building's open hours, Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 6 pm, and Saturday 9am - 1 pm. An artist's reception will be on Saturday April 7th from 4 - 7 pm. Food and drink provided.

Rafert's artwork uses fairytale-inspired narratives that toy with themes of femininity, lost innocence, puberty and death. Stage-like in their presentation, the works often depict intricate, Victorianesque scenes that are technically stunning, visually lovely, and often slightly foreboding.
The majority of the works on display will be etchings, a centuries-old fine art printmaking technique where the artist uses acid to etch a hand-drawn image onto a metal plate and the plate is then inked and used to transfer that image onto paper via an etching press. Also included in the exhibition will be several mixed media pieces that use a combination of hand painted and screen-printed elements.
Kyla Zoe Rafert is an artist and illustrator living near Amanda, Ohio and is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, with residencies at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, the Vermont Studio Center and Women's Studio Workshop, among others. Her work has received national recognition by New American Paintings, American Art Collector, and elsewhere. She received her B.F.A. from Rhode Island School of Design and her M.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Find her at www.kyla-zoe.com.
